Loving the spirit of my business

Last week on Valentine's Day, I fell in love with something not widely talked about…

I fell in love with the spirit of my business.

Here's how it happened, cause I think context in this case is important:

I went down to the lake, sat down with the Canadian geese and literally just started talking to spirit and the spirit of my ancestors.

It wasn't fancy, or eloquent like a love poem. I didn't bring them chocolates or flowers.

It was literally something like:

“Hello spirit. I know you're there somewhere. Thank you. If you have any wisdom, can you share it please?"

Then I started to walk… and it hit me:

I am in love with the spirit of my business.

The spirit of my business is an extension of ME.

It is not a machine that produces endless perfect products, one after the other, on a conveyor belt (capitalist, industrialist systems might have us believing that this is how “business as usual” is supposed to operate… but that's not sustainable).

I choose to see that I am in a relationship with my business.

And as in any relationship, our work is to nurture them, love them, let them learn, evolve and grow.

I forgave myself for any times I treated my business like a machine with expectations on constant output.

And I fell in love with the spirit of my business.

This extends to loving my clients and my community (that's you!)

In an exploration conversation recently, someone told me that they felt like I believed in them more than they believed in themselves.

I had to sit back a moment and take it in. Like holy crap, this is my work. My work, my spirit, what my spirit gets to make a living from.

And I am SO honoured that I get to steward this business.

What else do I love about my work and my business?

  • I love the freedom to create my own schedule (ie. go for lake walks in the middle of the day, take a 2pm nap)

  • I love the opportunity to move to the beat of my own energy

  • I love the ability to choose who I work with, to only work with people who deeply, see, recognize and invite me into their worlds and journeys

  • I love that my business redefines what I thought work “should” be

  • I love that me and my business have a relationship that invites me to trust myself more every day

  • I love looking forward to working

  • I love the people that my business brings into my world

  • I love that my business gives in return

Whether or not you own your own business, I invite you to reflect on this:

Do you love the spirit of your work?

Do you interact as if you're in a relationship with it, or do you have machine expectations for it?

How might you deepen your relationship to your current work and/or create opportunities for different work?

I invite you to be honest as you explore this.

Ask yourself what needs to change in your BEING that can create shifts for you.

FYI it's definitely not “work harder and force myself to love it.” Bleh.

Want to explore your relationship to your work, job, or business and how you might create a deeper more fun, joyful, loving relationship with it?

Book a 45-minute exploration call with me. Let's talk about.

There are absolutely no obligations on the call. It's not a sales call, because I've sat on both ends of those and they make me feel really gross.

With love for you, this community, and the spirit of my business,

Victoria

ps. A client of mine quit her job as a doctor on the second week of working together.

How? Why? She'd already been thinking about it prior to working together, but what being supported by a coach offered her was the space, tools and support to trust her inner voice, make a decision and follow through with action.

What you get on an exploration call is the opportunity to be seen and heard in a compassionate space, with the chance to explore your goals, dreams, intentions and get clarity on how to make that happen.

If there are a few insights I can offer, I'll do that too.

Book a time for us to connect here.
