Don't wait for someone else to tell you who you are

Believe it or not, I wasn't always comfortable or confident in myself.

Growing up as a first generation Canadian to Vietnamese refugees, and survivors of war, was both beautiful and complex.

Over the years as I delved deeper into building a relationship with myself, I started to bring awareness to how much of my behaviour and mindset had been conditioned to “always fit in”.

Best good friend

Over the weekend, as I was sitting in my home office, when my partner came in and said…

“You're my best good friend.”

I thought it was sweet and laughed (it's a line out of Forrest Gump). And my immediate reaction was to say the same thing back to him.

As I started to say it out loud, I actually stopped myself and said this instead…

“Actually, I am my own best good friend. You're my second best good friend.”

Be like rice, grow through your transitions

The roads around my home are covered with rice harvested from the fields being laid out to dry.

It was almost like one day I could drive on the roads with ease and the next I'm navigating my motorbike carefully through piles of harvested rice (see photo below)

Seeing the roads covered makes me think of the rice's journey and how rice transitions with ease (whereas we humans don’t have as much grace!)
