No one can heal you but you. Period.

Any time anyone refers to me as a “healer” or that I “healed” them, I cringe.

Personally, I don't resonate with this title.

Here's why:

No one else can heal you but yourself.

You are your own healer.

Now, this is not to say that we don't need support because we can heal ourselves. Or that you have to go about this alone.

The time I met Thich Nhat Hanh

Recently, Thich Nhat Hanh, celebrated his 95th continuation day (birthday).

In honour of this, I spent time reflecting on how much his practical teachings on mindfulness have supported and transformed my life. And through the inspiration of his teachings, I use mindfulness and mindful ways of being to support my community.

How to shift limiting beliefs

It's not that you lack confidence, courage or self worth.

It's that you grew up in a system that made you constantly have to prove yourself to other people than feel innately worthy as you are.

It's that since you were young, you were trained to seek the approval of others instead of approving yourself.

It's that society reinforces the idea that you should stay small, be quiet, and not cause trouble… so then owning your power feels unsafe.

Don't wait for someone else to tell you who you are

Believe it or not, I wasn't always comfortable or confident in myself.

Growing up as a first generation Canadian to Vietnamese refugees, and survivors of war, was both beautiful and complex.

Over the years as I delved deeper into building a relationship with myself, I started to bring awareness to how much of my behaviour and mindset had been conditioned to “always fit in”.
